Brooklyn Museum of Art

Communicating the Curatorial Vision
As with all of our exhibition titles, we worked closely with the curators of 'Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties' to understand the thesis behind the exhibition. We recognize the role of the exhibition catalogue to serve as a vehicle for a deeper context of understanding of the curatorial vision. Whether part of a larger creative endeavor that includes the exhibition design and identity, or as a singly commissioned project, our goal is always to develop a book that is an integrated component of a larger story and maintains relevance well beyond the exhibition staging.

The exhibition, 'Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties' is on view at the Brooklyn Museum through July 6, 2014.

Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum

One of defined goals in the redesign and creative direction of the museum's magazine was to increase value to members while also creating an effective development tool... building the museum's brand image through the effective and smart presentation of unique content. The "National Design Journal" was created to be the single voice for the nation's design museum, with articles by guest curators, scholars and National Design Award winners. Regular features such as event calender, recent acquisitions and shop merchandising remained an important part of the primary function of the magazine.

Van Cleef & Arpels

Sponsored by Van Cleef & Arpels, the 2013 TRIBECA BALL is the benefit gala for the New York Academy of Art, a school training visual artists in traditional skills that serve as powerful tools in the creation of vital contemporary art. Founded in 1982 by Andy Warhol and other influential artists, collectors and patrons and is located in the Tribeca district of NYC.

Drawing on inspiration from the Van Cleef & Arpels High Jewelry Collection "Palais de la Chance", the "Believe in Luck" concept was conceived as a brand "experience," opening the invitation was the "start" of the event itself for the recipient, creating anticipation and excitement. Visually the theme was represented by symbols/icons of luck throughout the various event spaces, creating an environment of whimsy and a dynamic variation between airy, open spaces and darker more dramatic moments. Bejeweled models in black bodysuits lined a constellation sky procession to a festive room where an illuminated bar and video wall provided a backdrop for mingling. In the main dining room, super-sized custom illuminated signs spelled out "LUCK" and "BELIEVE" on opposing walls and guests gathered around tables of paper lanterns nestled in beds of green clover.

Website Design. Our Approach

When starting a web site project, we ask how can we connect the user with the content in a more permanent manner. We believe that building an emotional bond between the user and the narrative of your site is the best way to ensure success.

Ben Franklin said it best: Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn.

Williams College Museum of Art. Identity Design

Brand Strategy and Identity Design for Williams College Museum of Art. The Museum used its 75th Anniversary as an occasion to rebrand and differentiate itself from the competing regional cultural destinations of Mass MOCA and the Clark Institute. Emphasizing the diversity of this teaching institution's collection as a cornerstone, Tsang Seymour created a new identity and brand strategy for reaching area tourists and promoting its robust programming to the local community.

Appraisers Association of America. Identity Design.

Identity Design and Implementation for the Appraisers Association of America, the premier national association of personal property appraisers focusing on fine and decorative arts. With over 700 members including independent appraisers in 100 different areas of specialization, the AAA’s roster of well-established professionals has the widest range of experience and expertise in their respective fields.

In order to meet it's mission of enhancing the visibility and standing of appraisers, the Association recognized a need to refresh and improve the visual identity, marketing and communication strategies to reach members as well as the communities they serve.

Tsang Seymour worked with senior executives to uncover the visual heritage of the 64 year old organization, uncover the shared traits of their professional members and create a new identity system that promoted the professional qualities and standards of the field.

The use of a graphic seal is drawn from a key aspect of an appraisers work... an embossed stamp of authenticity that can not be transferred or duplicated. This mark of authenticity was developed around the original visual symbol used at the founding of the organization... a wise and contemplative owl. We also created an expanded visual language that would tie the diverse range of marketing and communications into a unified voice. The magnifying loupe is also a tool of the appraiser and the grid of loupe detail-views helps illustrated the diversity of subject specialties found in the Associations membership and also create a visual texture or tapestry that ties all the Associations materials together.
